The Queerties – the annual award show produced by Queerty celebrating the year’s best in LGBTQ media & entertainment – has actually become a queer pop culture staple in itself, with fans looking forward to voting for their favorite artists, performers, and activists each year.
Despite the challenges of 2020, the LGBTQ community always finds a way to persevere, which is why this year’s celebration is proving to be the biggest yet.
The ceremony has already achieved a slew of milestones and firsts:
- Queerty readers shattered previous records with a staggering 1.5 million votes across 23 categories.
- Each year the ceremony honors a special guest as the highlight of the evening, but the 2021 show will feature speeches by two LGBTQ superstars: Pose sensation Angelica Ross will accept the Groundbreaker Award, presented by Lexus, while Billy Eichner will receive the MVP award for inspiring a 2020 election get-out-the-vote campaign.
- The Queerties awards ceremony will stream live at 6pm PST / 9pm EST on February 24 at Queerty.com as well as on its Facebook and YouTube pages. Revry will for the first time broadcast the event as well (including Revry’s third-party channels on Samsung TV Plus, Roku Channels, Xumo, Stirr, Apple TV).
Hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 12 Miss Congeniality Heidi N. Closet and Queerty Editor-in-Chief Dan Tracer, the show will include a musical performance by Bright Light Bright Light.
The event will also feature a virtual red carpet with celebrity appearances by Nicco Annan, James Bland, Isis King, Jai Rodriguez, Cameron Esposito, Shangela, Jinkx Monsoon, BenDeLaCreme, Willam, Alaska, HBO’s Veneno star Isabel Torres and many more.
